How To Cut A Pineapple

How do you cut a pineapple?  That was a tough one for me for years.  I love fresh pineapple, but the process of cutting one up would often result in huge sticky messes and possible loss of blood.

I have developed the following method:

What you need:

  • A pineapple
  • Sharp, serrated knife
  • Large cutting board
  • Compost bowl
  • Kitchen towel
  • Container for your cut pineapple

Step 1:  DO NOT CUT OFF THE TOP!  This is a huge mistake made by many.  The top is your handle!  Cut off the bottom so your pineapple stands up straight.

Step 2:  Hold on to the top of the pineapple, and shave the outside off with the knife.  You will lose some pineapple flesh in the process.  It’s okay.

Step 3:  Cut off the top.

Step 4:  Cut into nine sections.  The core will be in the center, and you can then either chew on it or discard it.

Step 5: Chop up your pineapple pieces into the desired sizes!

And then clean up.

There you go:  five easy steps, no blood loss!
